This monkey wrench, taken from the USS Petrof Bay, would have been used in one of the many upkeep activities on this small escort carrier. Apart from regular ship repairs, the Petrof Bay carried 27 aircraft that would have required constant maintenance to keep them aloft. During the Battle of Okinawa, the large number of Japanese Kamikaze attacks would have added an extra necessity to quickly turn planes around.
