WEBINAR: The Rosies of Battleship New Jersey

Director of Curatorial and Educational Affairs Ryan Szimanski and Director of Education Libby Jones from Battleship New Jersey and Museum will team up to present the 30-minute webinar that will highlight insightful details and stories about the women who helped build the Battleship New Jersey.

The Battleship New Jersey was built by a workforce comprised of one-third women at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. They came from Pennsylvania or rode the ferry across the river from New Jersey. They built the world's longest battleship during a period of transition, both in the labor force, and in warship construction techniques. In addition to building the fleet that won World War II, some of their ships, including the battleship New Jersey, have stood the test of time and are still in use after 80 years.

Ryan Szimanski has been the Director of Curatorial and Educational Affairs for Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial for the last five years. He has built a career of working on museum ships. He spent twelve years working on Historic Ships in Baltimore, including the Coast Guard Cutter Taney, submarine Torsk, Lightship Chesapeake, and Sloop of War Constellation. He also serves as the Executive Director of the Historic Naval Ships Association.

Director of Education for Battleship New Jersey Libby Jones has been with the Museum and Memorial for over four years. She is a career museum professional who has worked for George Washington's Mt. Vernon, Historic Ships in Baltimore, KID Museum, DC Arts Center The Exploratory, and Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. She runs one of the most successful museum YouTube channels in the world and has produced over 1,000 videos which have been watched over 250 million times in the last three years.
