Webinar: Code Name: Operation Vengeance

Charity Roberts

On April 18, 1943, Operation Vengeance was set into motion. The secret mission was to shoot down the Japanese bomber transporting Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto of the Imperial Japanese Navy. This webinar will revisit highlights from the 1988 Admiral Nimitz Symposium, held in Fredericksburg, which focused on Operation Vengeance. You will hear recordings from naval historian Roger Pineau and two of the P-38 pilots, John Mitchell and Rex Barber, who share their recollections of the events that resulted in the death of Admiral Yamamoto.

Chris McDougal, Director of Archives and Library, will share some artifacts from that mission that are part of the Museum collection.
