Rona Simmons interviewed 19 veterans who served in roles behind the lines. One could argue that building cemeteries and burying those who paid the ultimate sacrifice was just as essential as steering ships or flying planes, but these non-combat roles are seldom mentioned. Simmons brings some of those stories to light in her book, "The Other Veterans of World War II: Stories From Behind the Front Lines." Also hear from the son of one of the heroes featured in Simmons' book as well as an archivist from the National Museum of the Pacific War.

Fireside Chat with Henry Sledge | Annual Nimitz Conference
Henry Sledge joins General Mike Hagee, USMC (Ret.) to reflect on how With the Old Breed continues to shape our understanding of the Pacific War. He will also discuss his new book, The Old Breed…The Complete Story Revealed, which draws on newly uncovered material from his father’s original manuscript and interweaves his own memories to add depth and context. The result is an intimate portrait of Eugene Sledge’s service, his struggles to return to civilian life, and the enduring impact of his story on future generations.
