Remembering VJ Day in 2026 | McManus & Parshall

The National Museum of the Pacific War invites you to our September webcast. This months' presentation will be given by author, Ian Bertram. Bertram will share stories of the USS Boise from his book "On Board the USS Boise in World War II: The Battles and Secret Missions of the Light Cruiser CL-47".

Author and lecturer Melinda Barnhart shares the story of the Lindeijer family, drawn from her book A Gate in the Wall. This webcast examines life inside a Japanese POW camp through a secret diary and explores the long path toward understanding and reconciliation after the war.

Henry Sledge joins General Mike Hagee, USMC (Ret.) to reflect on how With the Old Breed continues to shape our understanding of the Pacific War. He will also discuss his new book, The Old Breed…The Complete Story Revealed, which draws on newly uncovered material from his father’s original manuscript and interweaves his own memories to add depth and context. The result is an intimate portrait of Eugene Sledge’s service, his struggles to return to civilian life, and the enduring impact of his story on future generations.
