Nimitz Minitz: The Mosquito Fleet

The National Museum of the Pacific War invites you to our September webcast. This months' presentation will be given by author, Ian Bertram. Bertram will share stories of the USS Boise from his book "On Board the USS Boise in World War II: The Battles and Secret Missions of the Light Cruiser CL-47".

In World War II, victory in the Pacific depended on strategy, bravery and military might. It also depended on knowledge of the ocean. Learn about an American marine scientist named Mary Sears who, along with a team of fellow marine biologists and WAVEs, researched the sites of proposed amphibious landings and prepared detailed oceanographic intelligence reports for the Navy. Join Dr. Kate Musemeche as she recounts the story of Mary Sears and the team of marine biologists at the Navy's Hydrographic Office in their race against Axis Powers to solve the ocean.

Author Brent E. Jones discusses his new book Days of Steel Rain, the epic story of a WWII vengeance ship in the year of the kamikaze. This is a true story of the vengeance ship USS Astoria and its crew, along with amazing photographs during the Pacific War.
