Join the National Museum of the Pacific War for a behind-the-scenes look at how the FRUPAC Maps went from lost gem to digital diamond. During the Pacific War, the U.S. Navy's Fleet Radio Unit in the Pacific (FRUPAC) communicated the daily activities of U.S. Naval operations, Japanese ships, cargo ships, and weather patterns and documented their positions on large maps. During this 30-minute webinar you will see the step-by-step process on how these historic maps were preserved and digitized for future generations to come.
When the maps were donated to the Museum by the Naval Cryptological Veteran's Association they were in fragile condition. Therefore, the Museum collaborated with preservation experts from Kofile, a leading company in the restoration and preservation of important documents. When the digitization of the FRUPAC Maps is complete, the Museum will house 844 physical maps and 1500 digital images.
