Outpost: News from the Front

March 28, 2026 10:00am - 3:00pm
Free Admission

The Second World War was one of the first conflicts in which Americans were regularly supplied with photographs and film footage from the front lines. Military units such as the Army Signal Corps and the Marine Corps Photo Sections documented the war for the armed forces, while civilian reporters like Ernie Pyle reported for news organizations back home.

At this FREE Outpost program, visitors can learn about these brave combat documentarians and explore the cameras, equipment, and tools they used to show Americans what the war overseas looked like. Guests will have the opportunity to engage with real artifacts and gain insight into how wartime reporting shaped public understanding of the conflict.

Outpost programs are educational, drop-in experiences held on select Saturdays on the Nimitz Platz at 340 E Main St, Fredericksburg, TX 78624. Visitors of all ages are welcome to stop by, ask questions, and engage directly with history.
