In recognition of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, this session invites K–12 educators to explore what leadership meant during the war—and what it can mean in today’s classrooms. What does WWII leadership look like when taught to modern students? Hear from education professionals at presidential and military sites as they unpack the character, choices, and legacy of leaders like Nimitz, Eisenhower, Johnson, and Bush. Together, we’ll examine how these stories can help students think critically about leadership, civic responsibility, and the real-world impact of historical decisions.
2025 Virtual Summer Institute for Teachers Day Two
Welcome to Day Two!
Today, we’re stepping beyond timelines and battle maps to explore the how of teaching history—not just what happened, but how we uncover, interpret, and share it. From leadership lessons drawn from WWII’s pivotal figures to the voices of women pilots, artists, and musicians who shaped the war’s cultural heartbeat, you’ll expand your toolkit with stories, methods, and perspectives that stick with students.
This is the day for bringing in new voices, fresh tools, and creative strategies—the kind of ideas that transform history from something students memorize to something they experience.
