Summer Camp : Virtual Game Design

This year the National Museum of the Pacific War (NMPW) has teamed up with the Institute of Museum and Library Services’ special initiative, “Games for Change”. NMPW was one of 40 museums, and the only one in Texas, selected by competition to pilot this innovative approach to enable teens across the US apply their comfort of using games to explore the rich resources of the nation’s museums.

This summer, teen-led block programming will be taught to middle school students here in Hill Country through a variety of free publicly available software. One such program is the M.I.T. program Scratch Programming. At the conclusion of the camp, individuals and teams will submit their final game designed to the national committee and the winners will receive $1,000 towards school costs. Other prizes will be awarded for different places.

Summer Camp Schedule: June 14-July 12

  • June 14th-18th: Intro to Game Design-required to be on-site-8:30am-3pm Drop-off between 8:00-8:30am
  • Saturdays June 26th and July 10th: on-site support from 8:30am-12pm
  • June 21st-June 24th: 10am-12pm virtual tech/office hours
  • June 28th-July 1st: 10am-12pm virtual tech/office hours
  • July 5th-July 8th: 10am-12pm virtual tech/office hours
  • Games are due on July 12th by EOD
