If you are looking for an incredible way to spend a day or weekend, schedule a visit to Fredericksburg, Texas this spring or summer. There is a little something for everyone in the family to enjoy, from interesting history to fabulous wines and dining in our quaint German-style hamlet. At the National Museum of the Pacific War, we have just opened Phase 1 of our Pacific Combat Zone Exhibit that gives you a glimpse into what it was like for our troops that valiantly fought in WWII. This is an amazing, intricate exhibit that every American young and old should experience.
The Pacific Combat Zone Experience
Construction on this exhibit started in 2015, with $8 million dedicated to the renovation of the popular Pacific Combat Zone exhibit. This renovation will be completed in two phases. Phase 1, that is open now for visitors, and Phase 2 that will open in the spring of 2017. This is a giant exhibit, expanding over two acres, both inside and outdoors, to give our visitors a true look into the scenes of WWII. Some of the components of the exhibit include:
- Pacific Theater. A to-scale map of the Pacific Theater is available that you can walk through, giving you understanding of the size of the vastness of this WWII theater.
- PT 309 Boat exhibit. Learn what it was like to stand on the dock next to a PT Boat as it was being loaded and learn the history of our PT 309 Boat “Oh Frankie,” named after Frank Sinatra.
- TBM exhibit. Get up close and personal with life on an aircraft carrier during WWII. See what was below deck as crews got a TBM Avenger ready for a mission.
This exhibit also includes video displays, information panels about flight missions, and artifacts.
Even if you have visited the PCZ exhibit before, you will want to come experience this newly renovated version. Now you can spend as much time as you want exploring the different exhibits as it is no longer only available by guided tour. This gives you and your family more time to take in all the different aspects of our most popular venue. The PCZ is included with your admission to the museum, so enjoy it for as long as you like during your visit.
