Nimitz-foundation-h 717883a

Founded in 1846 by German immigrants, today Fredericksburg is the unofficial capital of the Texas Hill Country, attracting visitors from around the world.

Why is a world-class naval history museum located in a Texas Hill Country community over 220 miles from the ocean? Because Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz was born and raised here, a native son who achieved greatness as Commander in Chief, Pacific Theater in World War II. The community recognized his achievements in 1968 by establishing the original Nimitz Museum in the former Nimitz Hotel. Since then, the Museum has evolved to become one of the most well-regarded military museum complexes in the nation.

Experience the human story of WWII in the Pacific Theater told through 55,000 sq. ft. of exhibit space, over 900 artifacts, and audio/visual displays.
