Education Department Open House

Celebrate the one-year anniversary of the opening of the Oveta Culp Hobby Center our 2019 Education Department Open House on Saturday, January 12, 2019, from 1:00 - 4:00 pm. This event is free and open to the public. Parking is available at the Pacific Combat Zone at 508 East Austin Street.   

 

 

During this come and go event, you will have a chance to:

  • Meet the Foundation’s new Education Director, Dr. David Shields and the rest of our Education staff
  • Experience the Foundation’s new mobile education center
  •  Kick the tires on and take pictures with vehicles from our living history fleet
    • At 2:00 PM, meet Aaron Verinder, the Foundation’s Lead Mechanic and find out what it takes to keep 70+ year-old vehicles running
  •  Take part in a virtual field trip as you witness our new distance learning technology in action with outgoing education director, Bryan Degner
    • Educators: learn how to book a field trip (virtual or physical) to the Museum
  • Make wearable remembrance poppies with Education Programs Assistant Barbara Ford and learn more about the programs we have planned in 2019 for children of all ages
    • Register children ages 8 – 13 for upcoming Nimitz Jr Corps sessions
  • Take photos and talk with our living history volunteers and staff
  • Keep warm with cookies, S’mores, and beverages from our coffee and hot cocoa bar
